As part of the Government’s commitment to challenge, reduce and close the gender pay gap (being the difference in pay between men and women), businesses with 250 or more employees on 5 April of any given year must make and publish certain statutory calculations to demonstrate the gender pay gap in their organisation.
For businesses with fewer than 250 employees, reporting is not compulsory, but some may consider it for internal purposes, for recruitment, or as a tool for positive publicity (if the results are beneficial for the business!)
You will need to assess:
- the mean and median gender pay gap in pay between male and female employees
- the mean and median gender pay gap in bonus pay between male and female employees
- the difference in the proportion of men and women receiving a bonus payment
- the proportion of men and women in each of four equal quartiles of the business, ordered from lowest to highest pay.
The data must be published on the business’s website and a Government platform. Businesses may draft a voluntary narrative to explain the data, which may be extremely helpful where there is a gap but an understandable explanation for it, although there is no prescribed format in which the data must be presented.
We can assist you by:
- providing you with the tools to complete the necessary exercises to gain the snapshot data
- helping you perform the required calculations
- helping you document the calculations
- helping you to draft the voluntary narrative to support and explain your findings, taking particular consideration of the commercial considerations
- reviewing business practices that may be causing an unintentional gender pay gap in your organisation
- providing equality training for staff and line managers.
